WDFW Hunt by Written Permission program

It doesn't mean they give permission for every weapon and every animal. In SE Washington they have a lot of elk hunting by permission only.  Do they get a flat rate for the program or more for more species allowed to hunt?

The $ they get has NOTHING to do with acess. It is NOT required for some $$$ . WDFW was used as a suplement to enhance the ammount of land for cover by adding it to the CRP program. Those "Hunt by permission only" signs were place on land owners land that said they would NOT allow hunters. In the CRP program additional points are awarded for access but its NOT required.

Back in the 90's if WDFW assisted on helping landowners qualify for CRP, by say putting in cistrens as an example,  then access was required under one of the programss, usually Feel Free To Hunt.

the tough part about his is the rules change but the signs remain the same... I was told that during one period of time "I think the 2000's" that the WDFW gave some money toward the CRP program or it would not have the $$$ for a series of given years. I know the link i provided about an earlier discussion here had a couple of land owners that explained it for us.

The Hunting with Written Permission program is a complete fraud.  I got permission to hunt from 10% of the landowners I contacted.  I told them to pick any day in the almost 4 month hunting they would allow me to hunt!!  I was ALWAYS told to call back later.

The program needs to be eliminated and replaced with a limited entry, sign-in program.  Numbered parking space and sign-in board.  Somebody parked in the space, you cannot hunt until they leave.

These landowners are just stealing money from hunters and the public.  Time to stop it.

FYI, on the written permission land verbal permission is not enough. You must have the blue card on your person when hunting the land. I understand there are exceptions but my experience based on dealing with the hunter and land owner side of the program is that for the most part the program is a failure.
