There is a one year wait after a successful draw of an antlered only hunt.  I'm not kidding about that.  Im not knew to idaho either I have been all over that hell hole of a state.

Hi all  :hello: Steve here. I haven’t posted,  I never   seem to have anything to say.  But I read a lot, I love the narrated hunts. My son and I started hunting Idaho 3 years ago mainly  because the tags are so cheap for him. Two years ago we put in and got drawn for unit 40 and we had a great time. I would love to hunt that one again but I know the odds are to great for that so I think we will put in for unit 54. Much better odds.  JJ I followed your thread last year on unit 45, was that a super tag or did you get drawn?

No, I am spending my $$ in CO this year.   Half the price with a better top end.   I would pay to hunt 45 again someday, but just because the Bennet Hills are so cool.   The country makes that hunt what it is!

From what I have read  and from those who I have talked to 42 is a tough unit to find bucks in, very dependent on weather to drive them out of unit 40. We had the 40-1 tags and started off hunting very south close to 42, we saw more deer the farther north we went. I wish we could do that hunt again.

Planning to hunt Idaho Rifle Deer for the first time this year but didn't get in for the draw.  Any recommendations?

you still got about 13 hours to put in for the drawing they just charge you a "convenience" fee for the internet purchase

I have hunted the Northern part of unit 39. I havent been there for a long time. Always seen lots of deer and elf. Shot a awesome 4 point my first time there. 24 inches wide, thick and really tall. scored a little over 159. before that older brother shot a pig. 5x7. Big old Basterd. I wonder if the wolfs are in that area yet?
