treestands?

i just moved here and i have heard it is common to use treestands to hunt elk here. is this true? i live in kitsap county. i live about 60 miles north of tacoma by kingston,poulsbo and bremerton.

It is not very common here.  The elk are mostly too mobile to rely on them being in a specific spot consistently.  If you can get access to agricultural land where they are feeding regularly or you can find a spot between a cover area and feeding area you might be able to do so. 

Saying that, I have shot one elk with the bow from a treestand in Western Wash. on public land.

I've shot 3 elk from the same treestand that overlooks a wallow.  It is on the east side but is my favorite way to hunt elk.

Great way to hunt, i have arrowed 1 bull and seen several animals of all kinds in my stand. Being up out of their site seems to improve your chances a lot, but you definitely have to find the right spot. I use a self climber, it's a little more work and creates more noise by having to climb every morning but it keeps ass holes from stealing your stand. I get in about 1.5 hrs before light, try it and if you have patients it can be a blast.

I know of several (That I walk past) that use them up in the Manastash, have seen guys in them, but when I tried using one, the Elk used a trail about 100 yards away. 
I think they work for guys that spend a lot of time in them, if you wait long enough, an elk will walk by you.....
I am too impatient, I'll just chase them to the tree stand users (Your welcome!)

I have taken 2 cows from a tree stand in the Manastash area myself!its been about 10 years ago!Both were taken on opening morning,in a creekbottom where lots of trails came together!

I think I will have 3 stands set up this year for elk season.  Put some trail came up and see what one has the most activity and what times then I can zero in on that spot.

there is some areas that we pass threw when elk hunting that have tree stands hung and i have heard of a few people taking elk from the over the  years but its not for me.

i like to chase them around too much. i think it's alot more fun to hunt them like the wolves do.... just my  . have fun either way.

I would agree, treestands can be as effective for elk as they are for whitetails, if you do your homework and have the patience to sit in the stand while there are bulls bugling around you and waiting for them to come by which can be very, very frustrating.  But if you sit still it can be productive for sure.

I like to chase them on the ground too.  I've shot 3 from a tree stand and 3 on the ground.
