Whom to contact ?
« on: June 02, 2010, 08:01:43 PM »
Does anyone know who or where to send an email stating my frustration over the recent permit changes ? Not that my one voice will change things I'm upset over, but I feel the need to vent. Respectively of course......
Can't we all just get along?

I've found the best response to comes when i call my state congressman and senators.  The WDFW does not like to hear for the legislature because that is where they get their money. Since the fish and wildlife is in the general fund now  :bdid: they are not depend the money they get from license sales.

...they don't depend on the money they get from license sales

Here was the arrangement of funding sources from a few years ago:

2007-09:  $431 million

30% - Federal, this is composed mostly of excise taxes on gear we buy and is allocated based on license sales.
26% - The state general fund.
15% - License fees, fines, and forfeitures.
13% - Local sources, such as a city or county shifting funds to the department.
11% - Proceeds from borrowed funds.
5% - Other, such as joint-ventures with groups such as DU, RMEF and the wolf groupies.

I pay into all but one of these categories, and I volunteer hundreds of hours of my personal time throughout the year.  You probably do too, so don't be bashful about voicing your concern.

In recent months the state has cut the general fund allocation some.  With that source becoming unstable, the department is actually leaning more heavily on us as a funding source...  At least 12 million was cut out of the 110 million allocation in the first budget cut.  The general fund allocation may now represent as little as 20% of the department budget.

I am curious to see the result of the fees collected with this new approach.

If more fees were collected this year, I doubt they are going to listen or care about how we feel about the new permit sytem, but rather put in place additional changes.   :bash:

It is not about the wildlife or the hunter, but rather the all mighty dollar.

With all the money this new permit system is sure to generate I can not wait to see the abundance of private land opened to the hunting public as advertised :dunno:. I bet we all get a map to these new properties with our mailers that get returned "not selected". I agree with the folks that say the WDFW does not care how much we all complain as long as we are spending they are doing the right thing >:( >:( :bash:.

They'd care, problem is we're at the nomad level of political organization at the moment. Bunch of separate tribes that occassionally get along, and the rest of the time ensue to kick the *censored* out of each other. No reason for them to listen to a bunch of primitives. If you took even 1/4 of the licensed hunters in this state and staged a rally down in Oly for the protection of our hunting freedom....yeah they'd listen then. Good freakin' luck with getting us nomads together though.  ;)
