cabelas tents

Hello all.

Has anyone used the cabelas guide model dome tent or the outfitters series extreme outfitters tents?  they get great all season reviews and the price is not to bad.  sounds like it might work for family camping then make a good hunting tent for my boys and I.

Me too, only I got mine at Liquidation World in Spokane. Brand new $100. I really didnt know how good a deal it was until after I bought it and got home. Mine is the 12X12. Super light and easy to set up. I think I will string a line next time and hang the peak insted of using the center pole inside. I also picked up a the Cabelas XL cot for $20 and the big meat slicer for $80. $200 out the door for about $1300 worth of stuff. All because the boxes were damaged.

Here is my buddies extreme tent in use. It is an awesome tent, strong and keeps everything dry. Takes a while to set up and tear down, but he really likes it...

i have the 6 person outfitter and its awesome  . Had it 8 years now  and it works great . I think its the only cabelas product ive ever been happy with

After alot of research and reading reviews I decided to get the 12x12 outback lodge.And the sod cloth/Floor.
I hope its as nice as everyone says it is.I am really looking forward to this season.

Those are some good looking tents.
I also noticed the "Beer Coolers" arent far out of reach..
I went with this tent based on 2 things.
Reviews and easy set up.
It dont get any better than 1 pole.
We will see.

I've had the Cabelas Big Horn II for about 3 years now and can't be happier. I got the wood stove with it as well which makes cold winter nights a breeze! It's held up well in 30mph winds as well as snowstorms & rain showers. I do throw a tarp over it when it rains just for extra protection.

What kind of a chore is it to put up that Bighorn II?  One man gig or two plus to put it together?

The Bighorn can be put up by one person, but easier with two.  I can put mine up in about 20 minutes alone.

I would agree, my buddy Silent Bob has the Bighorn II and it is an awesome tent, but much easier to put up with two guys.  I have the 8man Alaskan guide model and we love it as well.  Just depends on what we need, if there is lots of room in camp, we take the 26' Vortex Toyhauler,  less room and the Bighorn II goes, less room still and the Ak guide model dome tent goes.   Works out well.

Well right on Guys I'm pretty freakin gitty to get My new tent and cots..
That's right the cots are coming also..Just 2..
1 for Me and 1 for "my Lab" or a buddy..
I don't think I could go wrong with buying this tent from Cabala's.
I will be using mine north of Deer Park on the 4th of July weekend .
With fishin boat in tow. Me and My Daughter are going to kill them fish..And enjoy Our new tent..

was just out at Cabela's this weekend and checkout the Alaknak and really tough to choose between that and the Big Horn 3.  Talked to the boss  and she's okay with getting one or the other because is a decent price and can be used for family outings and hunting, thanks for all of the reviews

I bought the bighorn cause I didn't like the center pole in the Alaknak.  I probably go either on just saying we can cram four with cots in the bighorn cause nothing in the center of the tent.  Not sure if that can be done with the Alaknak...

I have a big horn and really like it.  It does sweat if  you don't have a heat source in the tent.  I would tarp the top if you can.  

I could change a couple things, I would make the vents closeable.  I would also put a small "wood" trap door on the opposite side to get wood instead of hauling it in the front door over all your stuff dropping bark, branches, etc.etc.

I have the outfitter dome tent, bought it in 96, its been an awesome tent, the fly just lost its tape seal recently and I have been workin with Cabelas to buy a new fly.
 I also have a 12x20 Alagnak, its been a pretty good tent, had it for 3 years.
 The bighorn was nice, had one for 3 months, but it wasn't big enough for 4 guys.

i stayed in the nicest tent ever, poured hard saturday night.
We stayed dry as a bone and warm and toasty inside.

Cabelas outfitter series with 2 pods attached. Pods are like $100 extra and also has an option for a covered entry (like a mud room).

Have the same tent.  Kept us dry in the CF spring bear.  Haven't had the opportunity to try it in snow, even at 10,000' in Wyoming two weeks ago.  Did keep me warm.  At 23 degrees, woke up with heavy condensation on sleeping bags.  Maybe that's normal?

Condensation on your bag in lower temps is normal. You body pumps out over a pint of moisture thru your pores each night in an attempt to maintain proper humidity level of your skin, so the moisture then migrates to the cold spots, sort of the dew point of your bag, often leaving moisture within the bag mid way thru the insulation or on the surface. This is why mountaineers use a vapor liner inside their bag. They basically sleep in a plastic bag inside their sleeping bag so that their bag does not absorb water and loose insulative value over a few nights.... Heck, it was reported that Jeff  Iditarod King had a bag gain 50 lbs over the course of the idatrod one year....
