I saw alot of elk and ALOT of people.  GMU 340 is road hunter and dirt bike city.  But if you are willing to hike in about 2-3 miles from all the trails the elk are all over.  Called in a couple of bulls and had multiple chances at cows.  Just couldn't get a good shot at a cow.  Coulda killed a raghorn opening morning.  My brother called him in to about 15yds broadside.  I killed him about 10 times with my "imagination arrows"

Like most units, you can try to get away from the crowds but it is really hard to do.

I've. Killed 3 elk in 336 and 1 in 340 since 2003.  I didn't hunt those units last year because I drew a bull tag in the bumping unit.  The elk are there you just have to find them and get away from the crowds
