That story about the desert crust being protected by restricting human foot traffic is just bull (and I don't mean elk).  There are or were at least 700 elk on the nuclear reservation, and they are tromping the *censored* out of that desert crust. Maybe one could calculate how many hunter-hiking-miles it would take to equal the "destruction" caused by one (nice bull, yum) elk. Maybe we could justify an elk hunt "to preserve the desert crust".  Just call me crusty...

A buddy of mine works there and told me this weekend that there is one of the biggest non-typical bulls the state has ever recorded in there.   :drool:
