West or East side tags
« on: June 16, 2010, 01:37:22 PM »
I heard a rumor and like I say it is just rumor that the state was going have people either purchase a west side tag or an east side tag. Just curious if anyone else has heard of that?

No, I'd say that's nothing but a rumor.

Seems they can't get a fence built along the Rio Grande, but perhaps we could start with one following the Pacific Crest Trail :twocents:

I know they won't do that but actually I wouldn't be against it. I think it would reduce hunters on both sides of the state, at certain times anyway. I like hunting both sides, but do prefer the eastside. However, I think I could pick one side or the other each year. I pretty much do that anyway. I'm hunting only the westside this year.

That would be a great idea, but it will never happen.. I think it would help with some of the hunting pressure over here on the eastside...

Just load your truck head over the night before and drive around till you see something. I've actually talked to guys that do that very thing. I know none of this boards members would do it, but probably the biggest complaint I hear down here in the Palouse.

I'd be all for it.  It would relieve some pressure during late buck over here on the west side.

I'd prefer they leave it alone.  WDFW has created enough havoc already with the permit changes this year.

that is a bad bad bad bad idea and we shouldn't even talk about it for fear it would happen.   :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: and i highly doubt it would releive pressure on the eastside cause thats where most people that hunt both would choose to hunt.

Thanks for all the input. So sounds as if it is just a rumor. But we never know the game department will do after this year. I would like them to just leave it alone.
This is my opion but I wish they would make the West side 2 point or better.

I agree and disagree... I agree that most people who hunt both sides would choose to hunt the eastside.... But I bet it would only happen for maybe a year.. If someone from the Westside comes over here to the eastside and has to eat tag soup, they might (and I mean might) want to hunt when they get back home.... I would be willing to bet that unless someone has a place to hunt and are pretty successful on the eastside, they actually might want to stay close to home.. But thats just my guess.. I live and hunt on the eastside.. I see alot of westside people during rifle season leave eating tag soup.. Especially in Okanogan County... I dont even hunt in this county..  :twocents:

To go along with the WDFW money grab mentality, it wouldn't surprise me if they make us choose west vs. east and then they would let you purchase another permit for say $30 to allow you to hunt both sides....... :P

(Kinda like their 2-pole fishing license thing......or multi-season permit............just money makers for the WDFW).

Ya I dont know busch. I hunt every year up by where you live and yes there are a lot of unfilled tags but it is still better deer hunting then most of the west side. Plus most of the guys over there come from suburben areas where they can't hunt.

I personally think this state will eventually have to go permit only for mule deer the herds can not handle the pressure now.Think what it will be like in 10 yrs 20 even 30yrs.? Our hunting camp has talked about this for years. We think it will end up like this mule deer permit only if not drawn for that you either can buy a blacktail or whitetail tag.Of course that is just my thoughts on what can happen and maybe should. It would take a WDFW that manages for herd health not for $.

I agree that mule deer hunting should be limited more than it is now, and the best way to do that is by going to permit only hunting. The problem I see with doing that is then the blacktail and/or whitetail deer will get additional hunting pressure put on them. So, to go to permit only mule deer hunting, I think would also require permit only for ALL deer hunting in the state.

Agreed. I am not too sure where I stand on this subject because of that exact reason. I would not mind seeing it go to a permit draw only for Mule Deer in this state. However, I don't want it to adversly effect the Whitetail and/or Blacktail populations either. Tough situation either way.

Living down here in the SE corner, I'll be honest and say that I really don't put a lot of energy into hunting the Mule deer down here anyway. Just too many people crammed into too few open acres. I usually give it a shot but generally wait until the general Whitetail season in N ID.
