Banks Lake Walleye
« on: June 19, 2010, 07:14:23 PM »
My son and I went over to Potholes early last week, the fishing was terrible. Next we headed up to Banks and the results were more to our liking. The hot lure was an orange cha cha hootchie with a black gulp leach. Here is a picture of Tuesday mornings keepers from the Barker canyon/flats area. Good Fishing to all.

These 4 fish were between 16.5" - 20". We lost a couple nicer fish. 16'-17' was the magic depth on this trip. Yup, right along the weed edges.

whats a cha cha hootchie look like, and what are you using to keep the lure down, a 3 way swivel or bottom walkers? I'm probably going to potholes this weekend and dont 'want to get skunked again...

We used a 2 oz bottom bouncer, works good up to 20'. Then I'd go to a 2.5 or 3oz. Rule of thumb is 1 oz per 10'. A cha cha hootchie is a floating hootchie skirt with a couple of beads in front and a smile blade. I'll see if I can get a pic up of one. I'd never heard of one till I went to Big Walley's. I thought they were just pulling my leg, trying to sell crap that was worthless. I bought one just because the guy was insistant that they work. After that morning we went back and bought more! They give good info at Big Walley's.

Here it is, the infamous Cha Cha Hootchie. I couldn't believe it would catch fish either!

I make lots of squidder rigs and they work great on banks..What is funny is taking someone for the first time they see those rigs and think we are going after some tuna or marlin..LOL.  Macks Lure makes the cha cha squidder.

Nice job yelp! I went back over Wed. and Thurs, just in time for that nasty T-storm! Not much luck fishing, just 2. Wish I lived over there, you are a lucky soul. I will be going back to work Monday, so I probably wont be back over for a while. When I told my doctor I took my boat over there, He asked me if I had a death wish and made it clear that I wasn't ready for that! I should take it easy for a while longer. Anyway, keep up the good work, keep those pesky walleye in check.  Good fishing    Mark

Will do.  Fishing should be good all summer.  I head up to Roosevelt later in the summer.  I will be out chasing some kings in the near future too.  Take care.
