Winchester Sporter Dilema
« on: June 18, 2010, 12:10:07 AM »
I have a new Winchester Model 70 Sporter in 270Win. Bought it about few months ago. For some reason, I can't get used to it. It is a pretty good shoter (took it once to the range with couple of factory loads boxes)... 1.5 inch groups on 100m. It is capable of even doing better...
My problem is that I am so used on my CZ550 American in 30-06 that everything else gets measured against it. These two rifles are similar, but CZ gives somewhat sturdier and more assuring feel, needles to say, I can shoot it better. I should have bought another CZ in 270Win back then, but wanted to have a M70, just for heck of it. Thought they would be more-or-less the same. Well, they are not. I am almost tempted to sell it... should I do it or not? I would hate to lose money on it, but if just sits there collecting dust, while other ones are getting used all the time...  :dunno: Any advice?

Man what a slap in the face, $100 is an insult!!!  :(

I'll give you $125 lol   :chuckle:

In all seriousness though. I would try it a bit more, if you trully can't get used to it, and don't feel comfortable shooting it, then yes.... Sell it and buy something you are comfortable shooting.  Just because it is an accurate rifle, doesn't mean that you will shoot it well.  If it is truly uncomfortable for you to shoot, then it will probably just sit there anyway unused.  Barring some unique situation, most hunters wouldn't take a rifle in the field that they didn't feel comfortable with.  So don't let it sit there, sell it and buy something that fits you.   :twocents:

I've bought a lot of guns because I thought that I'd like them. But more often than not, something just doesn't feel right about them. I've tried hanging on to them in hopes that someday it would just "click" and I'l love the gun. It never happens though. I'd sell it if you don't get that "warm fuzzy" feeling when you shoot it. Right now it's just taking up space and funds that you could apply to something that you would use.  :twocents:

FWIW, I did the same thing with a Winchester M70 in 30-06. I thougt I would like it. After all, it's the "Rifleman's rifle" right? I just didn't like like, or most other Mauser style rifle for that matter. I sold it and switched most of my rifles over to Savages.

I would sell it and get what you really want. Life's too short to have a gun you never shoot. Not to mention it's a waste of a perfectly good gun. Sell the gun to somebody who will use it.   :twocents:
