I drew a master hunter second Elk tag (cow) for Peshastin (Elk Area 2033 near Leavenworth)

Per the regs, “This is a damage hunt administered by a WDFW designated Hunt Coordinator. Successful applicants will be contacted on an as-needed basis to help with specific sites of elk damage on designated landowner’s property. Not all successful applicants will be contacted in any given year depending on elk damage activity for that year.”

Has anyone done a hunt like this before?  If so, do I need to contact anyone to provide my contact info?  How are the hunts coordinated?  Do I need to go buy a second elk tag to fill?

Dont buy the second tag until you filled the first.  I myself hate to burn points on  damage hunt.  WDFW used to give points back to MH for 2nd elk cow tags and damage hunts but i think that changed this year.  I would locate the adminster for that damage hunt I'm sure someone will know who that is for that area.

Being that the master hunter draws are their own point category now, I only burned master hunter points.  I would not have burned any elk points on a damage hunt or a cow tag if it was not stuctured that way.

I wonder how one identifies the hunt administrator...  I'll have to do some poking around.  could be a pretty fun deal if it pans out.

So just sit back and hope they call you.

If you want you can contact WDFW to get the contact number for the local hunt master who will be administering the damage control hunt.  That way you can make sure he has all of your current contact info to get ahold of you.  Depending on the hunt, they will just go down the list.  However that can be dependent on the area if there are restrictions on the type of weapon allowed.  Some damage hunts may cover multiple properties but only certain weapons, ie archery, may be used for safety reasons at a particular property while rifle or muzzleloaders would be perfectly fine at others.  I don't know anything about the Peshastin damage hunt, I can only refer to how it has been handled in North Bend.

It pays to be proactive, call WDFW and find out who the HC is and then contact him.  If you sit back and wait you may never hear from anyone.

Thanks for the input everyone both in this thread and in PM's.  I have some emails out and I'll post what I find in-case anyone else is interested.

The big question is:

If you don’t get called do you get your points back?

Given that they has 100 tags for 33 applicants last year...  not sure it matters!

Unfortunatly you do not get your points back if you do not get called.

But what I have always been curious about is in what order do they call the applicants or is it random. A call to the HC might be good to see if you can get yourself toward the top of the list, not sure if that is possible but being proactive couldn't hurt.

I have heard of guys never getting called on other HC hunts, but I am sure there are still plenty that do as well.
