Wolves by Bumping Lake

Myself and family were up at Bumping Lake Sat. morning (6/26/10) about 10 am hiking and goofing off and we saw a bunch of Yakima Sheriffs county search and rescue rigs in the parking lot at the boat launch. I say to my wife, must be doing some training up here, and me and my boy take off and she says she'll catch up after she uses the toilet. She catches up and tells my she asked a sheriff what was up and he tells her some boy scouts went for a hike the day before and got lost up by Fish Lake. The rescuers came in and found them that night right before dark so they hunkered down for the night. Here's where it gets fishy. The guy tells her that they were up all night scared to death with a monstrous fire because they became surround by a pack of wolves. I say bulls*&t to her and she says that's what he told me.     I bolt back to ask for myself but they were gone. Anybody hear about this? I'll pm Norsepeak because he may know some of the search and rescue guys to confirm this. But I seriously doubt it.

My guess is that it was a "What was that sound?" by the campfire and their imaginations got the best of them.

Exactly. If you read the WDFW Enforcement quarterly newsletters you will read a article about two hunters being surrounded by a pack of cougars, but when the WDFW Officer showed up the cougars somehow disappeared

Oh I agree if it were just the kids about the wild imaginations. But the rescuers were with them too. And what's with the Sheriff telling my wife that?  Trying to start some panic or what?

was just sitting around the campfire with some cowboys this weekend and they claim they have seen them in the teaneway area. dont know the truth behind it but not sure why he would be bsing me

spent an hour talking with the pass deputy yesterday, and he mentioned the lost kids, but no mention of the "wolves"...I seriously doubt it...think it's a little

I don't discredit the possibility of wolves, but the surrounding and tormenting of a large group of people with a monstrous campfire. c'mon.

I haven't seen any wolves up there yet but if they (Fed and WDFW) are set on reintroduction of wolves to this state then it is only a matter of time.  SSS

Some freinds told me they saw a black wolf in the Nile two years ago while elk hunting.  O don't know if what they saw was really a wolf or not
 I think it is just a matter of time now before they are there for sure

There's no plan to reintroduce wolves to this state as far as I know...got a link to support that claim??

 

There's been numerous times wolves in that area have been mentioned on here.

A quote from their talking points: "The goal of Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is to maintain a viable wolf population and the goal of the livestock community is to have a population that does not require protection under the Endangered Species Act. The quickest way to meet both of these goals is by reintroducing the wolves into the state."

Perhaps they are misrepresenting the WDFW's goals but this is how they are choosing to spin it.
