new bow, back at the archery game.
« on: June 26, 2010, 05:00:13 PM »
well after a few years of september heat and not getting an elk...i sold all my archery gear a couple years ago and made the switch to modern firearm elk last year for a season. WHAT A JOKE!!! so im back at the archery game for good!

i have been searching for a 60lb recurve, and not having much luck without having to spend $300+ which i did not feel like doing. but after a long search and plenty bows falling far shot of "good" condition. i finally found one

i just picked up a herters perfection 52" .......60# @ 28" and in pretty flawless condition with new string. i know this isnt a very high end bow or anything...but i was quite shocked when they guy gave my his asking price of $30. i just couldnt pass it up. im teaming this bow up with a dozen cedar arrows and bear broadheads. it took my a while to get the string twist correct. but now the bow is shooting accurately out to 40yds...which is alot farther then i plan on shooting. but its nice to know i can make that shot if it shows itself.

now that my bow and arrows are in order, i figured i could make a trip to my little honey hole (literally a stones throw from i90) and the elk have been in there all summer from the looks of the area. seen 20ish elk and 9 wallows and far more sign then a couple years ago.

really im just glad i kept my 45lb recurve around and have been shooting it on a regular basis the last couples years, so i dont need much practice.

looks like this season might just be shaping up nicely, not having to scramble in august to get ready is gonna be a nice change

There is no elk in Washington during the archery season. You guy's should stick with modern firearm season. I hear there is only going to be a few guy's hunting modern this year so the pressure should be almost zero.  :P ;)
