Draw question
« on: July 04, 2010, 01:41:03 PM »
Hey guys, I have a quick question to ask.  So I have an east archery elk tag.  We normally hunt area 340 which is a spike or antlerless unit sept 7-19.  I was fortunate enough to draw the observatory (area 340/342) tag, which falls during the same time frame, and is listed as an any bull tag.

So my question is this.  Am I legal to shoot any elk?  Because the general includes "antlerless", and my draw tag is "any bull", or does the any bull over ride the antlerless.

Sorry if that was confusing  ;)

just because you drew the permit doesn't mean you have to use it does that help
tagged out and going to town

Really? I wouldn't be shooting a cow if I had that permit. The bulls are easier anyway. You can call them in.

You can shoot any elk , cow , spike and any bull.    Don't pass up the first day an animal you would kill the last day. Have fun & enjoy the season. Mike

Ya, well I haven't gotten an elk yet.  I am seventeen lol.  So I really just need to get one.  Suggest some tips don't just wow me lol.   :chuckle:  I have called in a few bulls in the past years, but didn't have the tag.

Oh ya I am using a recurve, so I need the animals with in about 20-25 yards to make a good shot.   Its a handicap for sure, but it can be done.

Thanks mike, elk season is my favorite time of year, so whatever I get (or don't get) I will still have a blast.

Find someone with some knowledge & calling experience. Definitely easier with a caller back behind you especially needing to get that close. Have a great season, start now and make the most of the tag you drew. Mike

It's just that you may not draw that permit for another 10 years. You should really consider holding out for a bull, even if it's a small one.

Bull would be great man, but I see any archery elk as trophy - especially with a recurve! Good luck.

then why even put into the drawing Carp?  You just mess up the odds for the trophy hunters.

Recurve: Hit me up on the PM and I can put you on one of my stands in that unit that last year had 15 different bulls and two bears coming into it...we can work out something on using my treestand.
