Hornady Interlock bullets?

Has anybody used these bullets?  I picked up a box and am planning on loading them in my wifes .243 on top of IMR 3031 powder with winchester primers.  Are these bullets any good?  This will be my first try at reloading, finally!!!

That's what I shot in my .308 until I went to Barnes. Killed 3 deer and one elk sith them. Never had any problems.

Ive killed a couple deer with them also. I think they work great.

I haven't taken any game with them, but they have always shot well in my guns.

I don't use a .243 for big game but if I did I wouldn't use those bullets. They are just simple cup and core bullets. I'd recommend using Nosler Partitions or a bonded bullet for hunting big game and the Interlocks for small game or practice.

I do just that with my 375 Ruger. The 270gr Interlock and the 260gr Nosler Accubond shoot to the same POI out to 300yds. The Hornady's are for practice and the Noslers are for hunting.

If they shoot well in your gun, I would use them on deer without hesitation.

I used to use them but they exploded alot with my 300 mag. Every critter I shot died fast though. They did there job . I went to the interbonds and dont have the problem, I can actually get a bullet back if it dont go all the way through.

My relaoding mentor used them and he love em.  Says that they are amounst the most accurate load for his guns and has kill a lot of game when then including moose in Alaska without any issues.  I use barns bullets and Hornaday v-max for my smaller cals.

My only gripe about them is that the cannelure is never where I need it to be.  I load up 180gr Interlocks with IMR 4350 for my 30-06 and they work great.  Oddly enough, I put a slight crimp on the cannelure and they shoot great even though they are pretty far from the lands.

i have been looking at them for my 338 win mag and might try them also intrested in hearing everyones one of the few bullets i have not ever tried

Hornady built a huge company on the backs of the Interlocks.  They work pretty good.

Good bullets. I'd probably opt for interbonds for hunting, but you can't beat the interlocks for the price. If you're keeping it to deer and smaller, go for it.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Hornady's SST's...extremely good ballistic coefficients compared to traditional bullet designs....very comprable to the much more expensive Amax...but for less $$$. If you want to extend your shooting ranges give 'em a shot.

I agree with three_oh_eight, though! The cannelure is definitely in the wrong spot....huge jump to the lands on my .270...but oddly enough still one of the best shooting bullet I've found.

Ditto on the cannelure.  I used to shoot a lot of Hornadys with a crimp at the cannelure.  They did fine, but not as well as when I load them with a reasonable jump to the lands.  The bullet companies need to put the cannelure at a spot that's safe for the standard factory rifle.

Also agree on Hornady's SSTs.  Only used on one animal--antelope--but it flattened him.  Devastating one-shot wound channel.

A flatbase Interlock is a very effective bullet on game.  And, less than 300 yards, don't be scared away from their roundnose bullets.

I have had a lot of experience with this bullet, in quite a few calibers. I have killed a bunch of big game with interlocks. Never had a problem. They shoot well for me and they do a great job on game. My family has put many a muley/whitetail down with the 100gr interlock from a .243, we use IMR-4350. Work up a load you like, the bullet will do the job. You just got to hit'em where they live, and it will be over soon. I  put the 30-06 and the 150 interlocks on the back burner last year cause I am having fun with the 140 Accubonds from my .270win.

With any cup and core bullet I've found that if you start them out under 3000 fps they usually perform very well.  I like to go heavy for the cal. when shooting them, 180-220gr in 30 cal, 175gr in 7mm, 150gr in 270cal, 117gr in 257cal and 100-105gr in 243 cal.  I'm not a long range shooter and tend to prefer round nose bullets when hunting big game and Hornady has proven itself to me over the years.

That`s all my dad would shoot, he took many animals with them with out any issues.

couple bear with the 139 and 162 interlocks, some muleys, and a couple blacktail.  Never had a problem.  Still use them in my non-magnums in 7mm.
