Im going to mayfield lake at the end of this month and have never fished there. Ive heard theres koke's in the chinook run through and landlocked coho live in there. Im also looking for trout, unfortunetly i most likely wont be fishing from a boat. I was wondering if anyone could gimme some tips on how to fish this lake for those species from shore, any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I was there for the weekend of the 4th and had a great time. The problem with fishing from the bank is that where we were was pretty gradually sloping, so even 100' out was only 4-5 feet deep, at most. Once you get out towards the middle of the lake we were hooking trout well with a wedding ring and a work. I hate fishing this way, but it seemed to be the thing that was catching them. We tried catching bass, but there aren't many in the Lake from what we were told. We did catch some nice rainbows and a couple small Koke, but from what everyone says, if you want Koke, go to Rife Lake, which you probably know is only about a 5 minute drive from Mayfield. From the bank will be tough, but good luck, and let us know how you do. We also went to Swafford Pond, only about a 7 minute drive from Mayfield, and hooked into some smallies and a couple large mouths. You can fish from the bank there and is a good way to burn a couple hours.
Good luck!

No Kokane in either lake. Rife has landlocked silvers but no sockeye.

if you are at mayfield, then you can open yourself up to just hitting Riffe for the landlocked, or go the other way and hit the cowlitz river there at the dam for steel and maybe some salmon. good luck

The bank off Ike Kinsa State park camping area drops to 50+ feet pretty quick in the little bay. The point stays shallow a ways out.
If you watch were most people are trolling, is not that far from that bank.
The boat ramp side, drops down to 90 feet within a few meters of the rocks as well.

If your going to bank fish mayfield, you will want to fish at the trout hatchery. It's about the best place to fish off the bank on that lake. You will catch rainbows and silvers. You won't catch any kokes because there are no sockeye in mayfield or riffe, but both have coho. You can fish for silvers at mossyrock dam from the highway pretty easy too.

We went to the dam and nobody there was catching anything over the 4th, and it seemed like every type of lure/bait was being used. We caught them there last year on the 4th though. Good luck!
