Anybody have a suppressed .22?

I'm thinking hard about going through the Federal gouging of buying a suppressor for my S&W 2206 .22 semi-auto pistol.  Anybody have any likes and dislikes?  I'm thinking about the Tactical Innovations TAC65.  They're made in North Idaho, and I really wish I still lived in Idaho so I could bypass the $200 tax stamp, but I guess I'll survive.  I doubt Washington will ever pass a Freedom law like ID and MT have, so I'll probably always have to pay the damn tax stamp extra.

My main motivation in getting one is to be able to shoot wherever I want without disturbing the neighbors and peace out in the woods.  I love the gun because it drives tacks, but I don't even like stopping to shoot a ground squirrel 10 miles from town because of the noise of a shot.

To be totally honest with you, they ROCK. That is... if I had ever discharged one in WA, I ASSUME it would rock. I don't own one, but my father-in-law does and he told me that while it is legal to own one in WA, it is ILLEGAL to actually discharge one, go figure. That being said, from the NUMEROUS time I have played with it (not in WA, mind you and not sure which model of Can, but the gun is the same as on that site - Walther P22) I can verify that it will be everything you dream and probably a little more. (Depending on the maker) the suppressed .22 sounds little more than a very short PSSHHT sound you might make at a cat to shoo them away from something. While possibly diminishing a little accuracy, it makes up for any shortfalls in dump-truck-loads of fun. ...Plus it never hurts a man to play adult-imagination-time once in a while, and this little toy can take you from the worlds of spies and double-agents to the underground of the mafia or a hitman. I mean, c'mon, who hasn't visualized the scenario of having to avenge their family at least once, right? Right.

it is crazy in new zealand they are in every store i was shooting a 700 rem in 223 that sounder like a pellet gun with a full silencer on it. the suppresors are nice as well but the full on silencers are sick wish we could have them here.

it would sure as heck help save the hearing  so that makes it a health benefit does it not

Been looking into doing the NFA paperwork through a trust.  That sounds like the best way to go about it.

That 2206 is a nice gun. A buddy of mine has one, suppressed, and it is awesome. I actually want one because the gun is so nice to hold.

I really wanted one a few years ago. I was just about to go through the paper to work get one when I decided that it just wasn't worth the expense to have a gun that I can't even shoot in this state. And it's not like I live right on the border either. It's a long drive to either Oregon or Idaho from my place.

Were the .223 rounds subsonic?  Was there any crack from breaking the sound barrier?  I have always been under the impression that even when suppressed there will still be a pretty loud crack sound when the bullet passes super sonic speed.  If not that would be sweet to suppress high powered rifles.

I own a few suppressers/silencers they are the same thing and we can buy the very best on the market here in Washington.The trust route is very easy.The dealer will write the trust and you sign and date it along with a $200 check to the ATFE.About six weeks later your dealer will get the approved paperwork back with a stamp.Fill out the standered NICS form and it's yours to take home.You won't lose any accuracy or velocity.If your not shooting subsonic rounds in a rifle like a 223 it will sound like a 22.If getting a rimfire can make sure it comes apart to clean.I have a SWR specture on my 10-22 and it makes my pellet guns sound loud with CCI standerd velocity.The natinal firearms act is federal law Idaho can pass all the laws they want but you would still be leaving yourself wide open to a felony by trying to skip the stamp.

no i don't think so they were just some of his handloads. there was not much sound i can tell you that it sounded like one of my 10/22 he also has a friend that has a 300 win mag with one on it. i hope to shoot it when i get back over there in may. i have a picture of the 223 but it is a film and i would have to try to find it. if i can find it i will take a picture of a picture and post it up. got to dig threw some boxes

I would love to hear what a "non-subsonic" round sounds like through a suppressor. And how they would suppress the sonic boom since everyone hears it from a different location since the sound wave follows the bullet.

Todd, I've shot my buddies suppressed Walther a lot... what a kick in the ass! Dead quiet...we shoot in his front yard all the time with a safe backstop... he will commonly by these lighter, subsonic loads, and the only thing you hear is the action cycling...

He also has a suppressed AR.... now... that is fun on the NEXT level!

  i hate customs   after clearing the guns. the case was to big for them to take at the main gate so we had to drag my 80lb skb case around la airport for about 1hr, to get it to the main office.so they could get it onto the plane

When a sub-sonic 22 round when supressed is fired all you can hear is the action cycling. When shooting supressed .223 with velocities exceeding the sound barrier in Oregon while sagerat hunting it was still quite loud, but it does lessen the sound quite a bit. There are several sub-sonic .223 loads available. I have a friend that has a Class 3 permit.
