Wow you actually caught one on a trail cam! Did it attack the camera after that photo?

Figured I would catch some crap for that one - but I figured it would be received better than a picture of me. I included as a time stamp for when we dropped off the camera and salt block

I always put a salt lick next to an established game trail and in a good place for a treestand. Last one I set out had animals on it the very next day and within a few days had elk, mule deer, whitetail and moose on it - maybe more since something unplugged my battery about 2weeks into the soak.

Here are a few pics from throughout the soak - camera was set on the 3rd and first deer was in on the 4th - last pic on the 19th (When it was unplugged ) camera sat for another week and a half before checking it. By then it was really beat down around the block.

behind the camera is a junction where 3 trails intersect and I have a tree stand off to the left.

I have mine out soaking all year and haven't got one like your first pic yet  what kind of salt is that your using?

Those are mineral trace blocks but you don't have to pack some 20 lb block out there just buy the smaller one as they work just as good.

That is correct - it is a mineral trace block. I have another setup with a regular white salt block but it has been in use for a few years now.

It is actually a 50lb Skyval, but it is a 6 hour trip and a 4 mile hike into this setup so it is worth it to pack in the bigger block once and just leave it. And they are less than $10 at the local feed store.

Figured you were testing the motion sensor. my gf wasn't too amused by me having her walk past the camera several times. yours don't look so happy either lol.

Hey thanks for the tips guys. I'm gonna concentrate on hogs until 1 September. After that I will heed your advice and put out some salt and see what animals are in each area I plan to hunt in preparation to the 15 October opener of Archery deer season. Ill post some pics if I get pics of anything interesting.

Trace mineral salt with salenium pour the bags on logs, stumps and the ground. Good luck

This my experience. I've put them out in August and the deer hardly touch them. But the spring, look out, they will dig a hole for the salt.
