Hunted down there for several years especially out in the national forest behind the Sun Ranch.......Last time we went, we killed two for three hunters, but when we woke up to pack out, we were surrounded by a wolf pack that wanted our bulls. Just kept circling the tent in about a 2 to 300 yard loop! It was weird. I've heard that it's pretty well depredated by the wolves since then. :twocents:

We hunt west of Ennis over in the Gravellys and Snowcrest's, haven't been in the last few years because we have been un lucky in the draw. Word form the guys we know over there is that the wolves have become an issue. When we were there 3 years ago we saw a fair amount of elk but the wolf evidence was around. Love the country and we should draw next year since we have 2 points and will be back over there but the De-listing of wolves again concerns me. Questions about the area shoot me a PM. One thing is be prepared for snow if your rifle hunting, we have been there on the opener and hunting in t-shirts by mid afternoon and three days later be in negative wind chills and white out conditions. Love it all :)

My dad and i hunted there last year the week before thanksgiving. the first night we hunted we saw a herd of six, we didnt see another elk after that. there was a few elk hanging in some of the big horse camps.  the deer hunting was pretty bad as well, we both got our deer but was slim pickins.  we hunted up above sun ranch and ruby ridge.

Thanks a bunch,   did you like the country?  What did it look like,   Do you or any of you all have any pics of animals out of there or at least what the country looks like?

Which direction from Ennis will you be?  Here's a few random pics of the Madison valley south of Ennis looking west.

We like to hunt on foot,  Although if an animal is killed way back in.  My cousin told me a number of people over there will pack out your game for a fee,  Is that why you were asking
