Tricks for hunting the wind.

OK, what are your tricks for keeping a constant eye on the wind direction?  I use the little puff bottles but in the rain the tips get plugged and they become worthless.  In dry weather I tape a single thread to the end of my rifle barrel but it seems worthless in the rain too. What do you use, particularly in wet weather and light wind conditions?

Don't worry about the wind so much unless it's a steady wind, If it's changing dirrection often then it will drive you nuts trying to get it right so put on some cover and go about your hunt!

take a leak. If you get piss on your left shoe the winds coming from the right. visa versa for spray on the right shoe. If you get piss on your pants and both shoes its a head wind. If nothing gets sprayed its a tail wind.

if its raining I dont worry to much about it at all,Ill have a smoke,use my breath or just feel the breeze...

Breeze squeeze windicator . Keeping the wind in your favor is the most important thing , helps cover your sound aswell. If you have to hike two miles to get the wind right do it . Watch your windicator some times you'll see it raise a few feet then swirl the other way . also try to watch the grasses on the far hillside to get a idea what it's doing over there.

I just pick up some dirt and drop it.  Or use my breath.

I understand your frustration with the rain messing up your thread and puff bottle. I keep a small feather tied to a thread in the band of my hat. Unless its really pouring it stays dry. Im usually adjusting my hat often anyway so if I want to check the wind I drop the feather out and let the slightest of breeze move it about. It has worked well for me for years
