Can anyone point me in a good direction?
« on: August 06, 2010, 11:50:48 PM »
So me and a buddy are still trying to get our first Bear. I have been doing some research, trying to find a good area to go and I think the nooksack river area looks to be a good place. I've never been up there and we are thinking of making a day trip up on Tuesday. Is anyone very familiar with the area that can give us a pointer or two on where to go? Not looking for a honey hole but just some general areas that we would be able to find. Or if you know of a better area that we might have better success with I am very open to suggestions.

Thanks for the help, we really appreciate it.

Find anywhere legal to hunt, find berries, have little amount of people....find bears. ;)

Good luck on your hunt!

dont hunt from a road. go at least a mile from any road and you'll have a much better chance

There are bears in every valley in our western washington mountains.  A lot of good bear areas for food, don't have good visibility.  Make sure you can see for some distance(100 yards or more would be nice).  Don't get discouraged!  Huntin' bears is one of my favorite types of hunting.  The season changes constantly as it progresses.  You can see 5 bears in a spot a couple weeks before season and they are all gone to different areas by the time the season starts.  Just keep paying attention to feed and look for scat.  That being said, there a lots of areas you could hunt up the nooksack drainage, just find a road, head up and then hike in.   :twocents:

As bear stated every valley up there will hold some bears.but u gotta get back in. Look for ripe berry patchs scat peels etc. Last but not least a lot of patience.and as scent free as possible.one spot I hunt up there is 4.5 miles back in.
