Trail cameras to predict 2010 season??
« on: July 18, 2010, 11:07:37 AM »
I'm going out on a limb here but if hunting this fall is anything like what I'm coming up with on my cameras in the NE corner there's going to be alot of time out in the woods to see not much game. I'm not talking about down in the farming areas but up in the mountains. Usually by this time I have hundreds of pics of game animals including moose, elk deer including some real nice racks. This year I have got 1 cow elk, a few deer no moose. Anybody else seeing these type of results with their cameras? My 7x8 bull I have been getting pics of for years hasn't showed up either, have taken pictures of him when he was a 2 point, had a scar on his side to make him easily recognized. Also not hearing the coyotes anymore. Hoping it may have something to do with the type of spring we had and they are just roaming or spread out more.

I saw the activity of the critters change a bunch in N. Idaho over the past 15 years as the wolves were more and more of an influence.  Are there enough wolves in the area that you need to adapt your camera sets/hunting tactics to match?  The wet spring certainly has an effect, because the food sources change from a normal year; maybe that's the case.......let's hope.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

I have bowhunted Northern Idaho for ten years. ( just moved to wa. ) I had an area there was always elk, but the last two years they are getting scarce.  I found 5 carcases on one afternoon.  all wolf kills!  heard the hell-hounds howling at night and the whole problem is that it is so remote and brushy there is no way to control the bloody varmints.   Poisoning gut piles?  xylitol kills canines, but not others. just saying
