Didnt have any luck again this weekend.  Cant seem to get the right combination of huckleberry and termite sounds to get these bears to come in.   :bash:  :chuckle:  These are all in the same area so Im pretty sure its the same bear.

The cold calling just isnt working.  Unless you count these guys, they love showing up on my stands.  At first I thought I must be doing something right but now Im starting to think they are just mocking me.

"NO" success???

What 'cha talkin' about?!? Looks to me like you found some great looking country, that the bears are a visitin', thats something in itself. Thanks for sharing the pics too.

Now, I gotta ask...are you sure its termites, or ants??? Looks like carpenter ant work, but I ain't there to see the little white buggers, am I? ;)

You are right it is probably ants.  These logs are cleaned out so there was no bugs left.  There was lots of trees and stumps like this.

If you are using huckleberry sounds, maybe you are sounding to blue???  Maybe lean more towards a purple sound?   :dunno: :dunno:   :chuckle:

I know where there's about 30 stumps torn up like that. I wanted a termite call last time I was there too. Unfortunately the cattle had invaded the spot at near 6,000ft. I need a cow horn down the ridge to get them out of there so the bears will come back.  :chuckle:

The best luck I have had has been black berry distress.

Start out quiet to see if anything is close by...then work up to really make it sound like the black berry bush is getting riped apart. Try to setup by a black berry bush to use as a decoy.

Also, one that gets left out alot is maggot distress. The first bear I ever shot (or seen in the wild for that matter) was rolling and eating maggots off an old coug kill. Maggot distress is what I use as a secret weapon. :IBCOOL: :chuckle:

Looks like a busy area....keep at it unless you dont find anymore fresh sign.

Went out today to look for a bear.  No luck with bears with the swirling wind, super dry ground and the millions of squirrels.  I have never seen so many squirrels it was like there was one or two for every tree.  I dont know why we cant hunt them.   :dunno: I did find some new area with lots of bear, deer, and elk sign all on the same trail.   :IBCOOL:

Woke this forky up while walking on the corn flakes.  IMPOSSIBLE to be quite right now.  I just walked around blowing on the elk cow call every time I stepped on something really loud.  I took this with my new Lumix.  Not bad for a point and click from a hundred yards (no cropping).

Found this rub right near the buck.  He still has his velvet so maybe he has a big brother running around.

Bad luck for this cow.
