What do you think of this boat "2cents welcome"
« on: August 22, 2010, 06:20:37 PM »
o.k. guys/gals i have found a river boat i like the looks of. I have my bowfishing boat but its not a river boat. i am thinking about buying one for chasing the salmon and steelies around. the rivers are the klickitat and the white salmon area as well as the dechutes as little as well. here is the listing.

16.5' aluminum spectra 115hp evinrude late 70s runs fantastic, 6hp kicker rough shape but runs. seats 6 comfortably. the trailer is very nice. everything works. has a top it is removed at the moment

the guy is asking 5,000 for it. thanks!!!

Seats six in a 16 foot boat.   I am not sure all six can fish out of the boat at the same time.

Does look to be in good condition, but with the seating arrangement that might be cramped for fishing four guys, unless you have one or two up in the bow section and fishing off the side there.

Looks like a nice boat but if you are trolling for salmon/steelhead you will probably max out at 3 rods. With a motor that old I would want a ride in it before I bought it.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

yeah for sure fc ;) i never buy anything with out a good test run first :chuckle: i spent 10 hours on the water with my bowfishing boat before i said i would take it :chuckle: i would run it before i buy it maybe even get a salmon on it before i sign the papers :chuckle: the 4 person max might happen like a few times a year if that if my little bro came home and wated to fish it would be me and my father 90% of the time or me my dad and my wife so 3 of us fishing so it would not be bad. it would be trolling and ancor/bait fishing the most. i do like to jig a bit to but then i could be in the front just fine and spread out a little.

FWIW though if you are not planning on doing a lot of shallow water fishing you should look at some fiberglass boats, the bad thing about an aluminum boat is that it will pound like a bitch in even fairly small waves. I have a small aluminum boat and I know all about the pounding, in 2-3 foot waves it will pound just trolling...A glass boat will cut through waves where the aluminum will float over the top like a cork and *WHAM* down on the other side.

yeah i have been looking at them as well. i fished a ton from fiberglass boats when we really used to get after them. so it is not out of the question. i just think this is a good deal and should work nice. most the time in the rivers i will be fishing there is not much for rollers inside the mouth and up.

dont know what kind of rivers you are going to fish or what type of fishing but you might want to put that in consideration, that v bottom is going to be hard to handle back drifting and side drifting.

yeah we will be tied up or trolling. the only time i would drift is out jigging. my bowfishing boat is almost a flat bottom and they are eay to handle but really slam if you get into the bigger waves. where the v's will cut alot better threw the water.

It looks good to me!  By the way do you know what the 2 happiest days of a boat owners life are?

well the 115hp is enough to push that boat around without disappointment, but if you want this as a river boat I'd pass, FYI. This is a good lake boat.  not salt or river, IMO. but it does look like a good lake boat.
