Opinions on Best Eastside Archery Elk tag
« on: March 13, 2008, 04:49:13 PM »
Guys, I have been doing some research on draw odds, and need some opinions.  The last couple years I have been applying for the Blues which is a very low odds unit, I dont think I can wait any longer for this tag.  I know Peaches ridge is supposed to be a good hunt with fair draw odds.  This season I didnt really hear to much for big bulls being taken there.  I believe Michael J had a tag this year for there.  What about the North Side of Ellensburg or Blewett pass backcountry do these areas hold high densitys of elk, other than that I am stuck.  I would like to hunt a unit with the opportunity for some 320+ bulls, which I know there are in pretty much all the eastside units.  Ive got 5 points and am trying to fiqure my best strategy for drawing a early archery tag, and opportunity at some mature bulls.  Opinions would be appreciated.  Thanks James

I have always heard good things about the teanaway holding big bulls. Also the colockum has some big boys but the draw odds aren't good for that area. I don't know what the odds are of drawing the teanaway, but the peaches ridge seems highly sought after so could be tough to draw also. There is the bumping unit which you would have to pack into, but would probably have less people and some good sized bulls, assuming that alot of people don't hunt it because of access issues.

I know the peaches ridge unit fairly well, and have seen some big bulls in there, if you draw that tag i could point you into some good areas.  I'm actually thinking of going archery or muzzeloader soon to hunt that unit in the rut.  Look at my post in the elk points thread on the last page, there is a link to the two bulls we took in 2000, the one scored 340 something if i remember right. This unit is large and with scouting can produce some quality bulls.

i think slider also had a peaches tag this year and killed a bull. there's a story on here somewhere he posted.

The Cascade  eastside tags have the best odds of drawing for sure and have good bulls too. The Blues are good but next to impossible to draw so if you really want to have the best draw opps I would say Peaches and the units around there. nwhunter

Best odds - cascade eastside tags.. I have seen some big bulls come out of peaches ridge.. a close hunting partner took a 340 bull outta there a few years ago.. other than that,  blues odds are near impossible to draw..

Peaches Ridge is probably at the top of the list.  Just my opinion.
