i saw 5 deer to day 2 spikes , 1  3x4 and 2 2x2s. why do spikes wait so long to rub?

Spikes don't have as much testostorone in their system.

I agree...seems like the spikes are always last to shed the fuzz.

I saw the opposite on deer yesterday.  21 bucks and the small bucks were clean while the big bucks still had full velvet.  I'm sure it's only a few days now.......

i know the spike elk are the last to use their horns too. i guess they just don't have as much testosterone?

I saw spikes last year that still had velvet towards the end of September. I'm thinking definitely a lack of testosterone.

i saw a spike today and his velvit was off but saw a 2x3 that was still full velvit :dunno:

Genreally bigger ones first, just like elk.    Its not an exact science.

I saw 3 bucks yesterday (whiteys) in town. The smallest, a forky still had velvet. The middle deer 110-120" had no velvet and the boss 130+ was still covered.

seen four bucks this morning,2point had velvet,3x3 none2nd 3x3 none 3x4or4x4 pig my son shot at and missed zero velvet,we followed his rubs and caught them bedded down...Boy that was a long walk back to the truck for my son after blowing the shot,,,of course there was a certain dad reminding him all the way back... :chuckle:
