Fun morning hunt in the rain
« on: September 01, 2010, 10:06:06 AM »
well at least it was cool this am :chuckle: wet fog/mist all morning. but the deer liked it and seemed to be out and about. think i saw 16 does/fawns hard to keep count and 2 bucks. one a very nice benchy i could have shot at 43 yards but he was nice but not great. put a hell of a stock on him and he was screwed when i got up on him :chuckle: he caught me letting my bow back down and about crawled out of his skin :chuckle: but it would take a monster/toad for me to burn my tag. still fun. i found out my boots aren't as waterproof as they use to be :chuckle: and am wet from the waist down. went to another area and saw about 15 more deer with a few small spike/forkies. so good morning for a early season hunt around here. saw a rig on the way home that looks like they bagged one with the grill :yike: was not very pretty.

was in the woods doing a little deer hunting and elk scouting and heard a cat. so i sat up next to a tree and did some calling. after about 45min. a stick broke behind me,so i turned to look and saw a small cat( 80lbs) at about 20 ft. i jumped up and turned and he took off. dont know who got spooked more, me or him.  :o

All I got today was cold and tired.  Let a doe walk at first light and missed a yote at 81 (bugger took a few steps after ranging him), one Shuttle T down.  Cut a cord of wood then put 5 hours in the treestand trying to kill a little whitey.  ;) Was 38 deg when I got in the truck at 8:40 tonight at 4250 ft.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

No success here either.  Took me from 1:30 to 6:r0 to see my first buck.  Same one from my scouting photos and still in the noisy brush.  Used some contours to close to about 100 but they didn't feed toward me.  I gently pushed them a few hundred yards into sage and crp, but I'm sure they are back in the thick this morning.  All does, so far this morning, but the sun feels about right for a nap.
Dreams are forever on the mind, realization in the hands.
