Im going to be hunting deer and antelope over by Gillete in october and wondering if anybody has hunted any of the land over there were doing a diy hunt and plan on hunting the BLM units for deer and some private land for antelope this will be our first out of state hunt so just looking any input
Ive hunted deer east of there about 30 miles and there is limited public land and ive noticed it getting more crowded every year.Just make sure you have a good map and knew which roads are public and which are not.1st year over there we thought we were on a public road due to no, no tresspassing signs and A farmer caught us and he was pissed.I thought he was going to have a heart attack he was so mad.we appologized and stated we would leave. He followed us out while calling the game dept.,warden caught up to us about 5 miles down the road and was extremely helpful and respectful. We explained why we thought it was public and he gave us the heads up on all the roads over there both public and private. So I think you should call fish and game and see if you cant find someone who will help with all the roads. Also if it rains over there get out of the prairie roads and onto hard gravel as soon as you can or you will be walking back to camp! Those roads will go from passable to inpassable in 10 mins. of rain.As for the hunting bring good glasses, better boots, and zero your rifle at 200yds and know what it will do at 300-400.My best advice is walk into an area not accesible by road and glass and walk,or if you have enough guys you can a push through the draws setting someone at the head and some guys walking up from the bottom. This works well at midday when the deer are not moving.GOODLUCK Very good advice !!
