Scope is too big!
« on: September 06, 2010, 04:37:44 PM »
I picked up a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 for a new rifle I hadn't bought yet.  I ended up with a Remington M700 in 7mm-08 and after mounting the scope, I decided it was too much.  I like my scopes mounted fairly far forward and with this mounted the way I like it, the front ring is nearly to the adjustment knobs and I have a whole bunch of scope sticking out the front.  I tried to exchange it for the FX3 6x42 I wanted and couldn't find the receipt, so no go.  Now I'm stuck with a $475 dollar scope I don't like.  Anybody wanna trade?

It would probably be easy to get nearly all of your money back if you sold it on eBay.

Did you pay with a Credit Card? You may be able to use your Statement in place of the Stores Receipt, can't hurt to ask... :dunno:

You could always donate the scope

Easy fix for that is get the tactical one piece mount with the slots in it. I had the same problem mounting a Leupold VXIII 1.5x5x20mm on my Remington 721 300 H&H (long action 700) the leupold was too short in the front end to get correct eye relief. Put a tactical on piece mount (weaver style and you can move the rings where you need them for correct eye relief. All you need is the Remington model 700 short action tactical base. They sell them standard MOA or 20 MOA to sometimes up to 30 MOA for long distance shooting when you need more elevation in your scope. They range from $30.00 all the way up to $150.00 for Nightforce bases. Midway, Natchez and ours carry them. Maybe your local sporting goods that carry optics and firearms my have them. They come in aluminuim or steel. here is a Weaver for $16.49 Here is what they look like.

I wish I had.  I paid with cash.  Which is strange because I normally never have cash.

I have the opposite problem. I have a Leupold Vari-X111 2.5x8x36 on my ruger .300 win mag and it is just not quite big enough.
