Knee injury hurting me worse than I thought
« on: September 10, 2010, 12:53:04 PM »
Banged up my knee pretty good the other day.  Just got back from the doctor and he said it's a partially torn PCL and that I should not push myself for at least a month.  He said the tear wasn't that bad, just enough to call it a tear.  Still hurts though.  Anyway, unless I can sneak out of the house, my wife says my elk season is done.  Now I turn my focus to late season elk.  I have a spot picked, just didn't know what else I needed to know about late season elk.  This is my first year and I was really hoping to bag one this week and not have to worry about late season.  Any help?

Get some walking sticks.
Or
Go drive your areas and see what going on. Have the bow with just in case you see elk.
Or
Take the wife with; tell her it's a picinic.  :chuckle:
She doesn't want to go? You still can't go?

Go to Cabelas, go upstairs, try on some camo and grab a bow and sit over the elk display.
Enjoy... :IBCOOL:

Is late season that bad?

Seriously, I am going to try to get out next week after work a few days.  No go this weekend though.

I have battled a sore knee for a while now. I just got a nice brace for it and it makes it alot better. Maybe you can get something like that so that a) you can handle the discomfort and b) your wife will let you go....  :dunno:

I fell on Tuesday, opening day.  I was with Soldier 5.  we were crossing some logs and I slipped and my leg got caught between 2 logs right at the knee.  All of my weight shifted forward and my kne didn't move.  Then it went sideways and again, the knee didn't move.  Had trouble walking the rest of the day.  Got home and took a nap and couldn't walk when I woke up.  Finally felt good enough yesterday to go to the doctor.  Got the xray/MRI results today.

I thought about bracing it but the doctor said no.  Just rest.  I have a torn meniscus in the other knee that I have to brace up all the time.  This pain feels NOTHING like that

I hunted the '87 deer season with my right leg in a full cast following my ACL (and just about everything else_CL) surgery. Let me tell you, crutches make a great shooting rest.  :chuckle:

I've had 3 surgerys on the same knee. I'm lucky to walk a mile. That being said, stock up on ibuprofen and modify the way you walk. A walking stick will help keep your stability. It wont help with load bearing. Make sure you stretch as much as possible. Keep it elevated. Do what you can to let it heal now before the season starts. Don't over do it now.

Resting is what I'm doing.  I'm probably going to miss the rest of early archery elk but, I still have modern deer and late archery elk.  Just don't know anything about late archery elk, thus this thread.
