Coon for dinner
« on: October 27, 2010, 07:39:55 PM »
This guy down the road from me has problems with racoons all the time and I told him that next time he shoots one to call me up and I'll take it and cross it off my bucketlist of wild game food. I've been told by several people that racoon is actually a very good tasting and tonight I had my first taste test and I have to say they were right!  Kind of a cross between beef and bear and no gamie flavor at all. Makes me kinda sick to think of all the ones I killed over the years and just threw them away (we raised chickens for a few years and coons were a very common problem.) Now Im looking forward to doing some coon hunting with my foxpro!

I kind of figured it would be awesome in a stew. So far I havent got a deer or elk for some stew this year so I think I'll make up for it with a couple dozen coons.  :chuckle:

Used to hunt and eat coon as a kid in Wi. Loved hunting them with coon hounds at night chasing the dogs through the woods, swamps.
A pick-up, leinies beer , 22 cal rifle and cooon hounds :chuckle: Great memories

Back then used to get $15 per hide too

My Mom used to roast them. I remember tasting like sweet pork. Our dog would not touch it for some reason
