ideal weather
« on: September 20, 2010, 09:35:06 AM »
I have a question for you guys. My old man and I leave Thursday morning for our elk hunt in Montana. I have been watching the weather for the past few weeks in the closest town to where we will be hunting. It has been rainy and kind of stormy for about a week and starting Thursday it is supposed to get nice, as in uppers 60's to low 70's during the day and low 40's at night. Granted this is in town and we will be well above it but what do you guys think? Good, bad, makes no difference?  :dunno:

Makes no difference. After riding horseback for 31 miles, you guys won't be leaving camp anyway.   :chuckle:

OK, well seriously, if I were you I would prefer to have the nice weather over the wind/rain/cold. The hunting should be good either way, since you'll be hunting the peak of the rut with little to no competition from other hunters. If you don't have to deal with rain getting everything wet, things will be so much easier. And it helps in the hunting aspect as well because you won't have the problem of fogged up binoculars, spotting scopes, and rifle scopes. Not to mention you will be much more comfortable if you stay dry without the need to wear rain gear.

I have always had a preference to night time cloudy and cold and snowy to keep them bedded down all night then day time nice sunny and warm to get them back up and moving around.  :dunno:

I really appreciate that. I am just becoming more and more like my dad where I over analyze everything. As long as we get into the elk, hear some bugling, see some beautiful country and have a good time it will be worth it to me. Getting an elk will just be icing on the cake.  :brew:
