Turkey newby looking at spring birds
« on: September 20, 2010, 08:59:59 PM »
I live westside.  I know turkey hunting is better in the NE corner of the state but, I'd like to stay close if possible.  Anywhere public worth a crap around Shelton, or as far south as Pe Ell?

I've chased them in Capitol Forest.  Had a nice gated road that I would hunt behind but it always seemed when I would find turkeys, some a-hole would go around the gate and drive in.  Turned several in but nothing ever happened.  I've also seen sign NW and SE of PeEll but they did not use the roost tree I found during the season, at least when I was there....  Also saw a couple between Grand Mound and Tenino on State land, SE of Tenino also on state, though access is tough, and of course Johnson Creek.
