if rule number 4 says you need a photo of the animal with at least one team member why would you award .5 point for it?  :dunno:

the .5 is for a picture of a live yote. not a dead one :chuckle: to get the points for a dead one you need a team member in the pic or a sign. .5 for a yote standing in your yard or down town seattle :chuckle:

That is the problem of having that rule. Also, someone can take a photo of a dog out in a field while driving along I-90 at 75 mph, the photo is so blurry one can hardly identify it as a four legged creature and yet they still get a half a point for it. I simply don't agree with it, a BS rule I think.

If you are good enough to call them... then, go call'em and kill'em. As in if you are going to talk the talk, then go walk the walk and earn that point.

First off a rule clarification on the photos.  If you take a photo o video before shooting the coyote you get points for the photo and points for the kill.

I am leaving points for photos of coyotes, but at a member's suggestion, we will cap those points at 10 total for any one team.  The reason behind this is I want to encourage people to actually learn how to call and understand coyote behavior and their response to how you conduct a stand.  In order to do this you need to keep your finger off the trigger and observe coyotes and their responses to your calling.  Working a coyote, getting them to respond to your calling, and then reaping the benefits fo putting them in your lap, is much more rewarding than just a kill.  All of you veteran callers can agree to that.  What is more impressive to a newcomer that you introduce to calling.  Showing them a coyote at 300 yards and saying shoot it, or watching a coyote come up and sniff the end of a barrel because you manipulated them into doing so?

Yes the photo deal can be abused, that is why I am putting a cap on it.  The original intent of scoring the photos as points is to encourage more participation.  This entire contest is run on the honor system so hopefully, our participants don't abuse the rules.  It has gone really well the past two years.
Dreams are forever on the mind, realization in the hands.

I don't see the photo point thing being abused. It's been out there all along, and it hasn't. Why? Because we're not photographers, we're not out to win this by a point or two gained from some pictures. We're pursuers of coyotes. We've allowed them into our blood, and we're driven to get 'em. This contest is run on the honor system, and I've never seen it abused. I'm very pleased with how this is run, and by the conduct of the participants. I have no concerns of "photo point abuse".

I want to clarify my stand on this photo thing. If a caller/photographer goes out and conducts him/herself as a predator hunter would, then calling and photographing a coyote in lieu of shooting it is okay by me. I can somewhat agree with the photo "before the kill" but the jury is still out on that one as it is still one and the same dog. Then again, if it were a CALLED PAIR and only one is killed then perhaps the .5 point should apply or 1 point for the photographer. Calling in a predator and choosing to not shoot it for whatever reason that person feels comfortable with is, almost as good as a dead dog. Some folks have morals, I don't!  :dunno:

Like I earlier stated, I have an issue with photographing a coyote from 400 yards out, mousing in the field as one is driving through the toolies at 75 mph, that is not calling predators nor is it hunting. I believe all photos should be reviewed by the mods before a half point is applied to that team. Obviously if it is clear and appears to be called then I'm okay with it, not the blurry mass that looks like a dog on the run through the cornfields.
