Packwood Poacher
« on: September 22, 2010, 01:16:39 PM »
As I prepare my tag soup I wanted to share a stroy and see if anyone was in the area or has any info.  On Saturday morning around 9:00am Sept. 4(labor day weekend) we had a real nice 6 and a smaller 5 walk through our field.  My mother in law heard later in the week from some of the locals there was a gun shot heard somewhere near the golf course on Saturday night (about 1 mile from our cabin).  A couple friends called me after the season to let me know they spent a few days hunting down low in packwood and walked upon a huge bull with his head and cape missing!!  The poached animal is past the golf driving range on the right if anyone has any information please send me a message and I will pass it on to the authorities.  My money says it was some tweakers in town for the flea market but maybe we will get lucky and see if someone saw any strange behavior Saturday night.

Rotten pukes, I think that there should be open season them.  Cut their heads off and hang em out in the middle of town.  There is a lot of *censored* they are doing, cedar harvest, fish poaching and *censored* like this !

packwood,
did you already contact WDFW? With these situations it is important that you contact them immediately. It is unbelievable how many times people tell WDFW Officers about "suspected" poaching 2/3 weeks or a month after they observed the poached animal/incident, an officer can't really do anything with that and the info is pretty much useless.

Also, the area you listed is within the treaty hunting grounds of the Nisqually, Puyallup, Squaxin Island and Muckleshoot Tribes. And I am sure you know, but that area is hunted heavily by the Puyallups and Nisqually's. So it might actually be a completely legal kill. Some tribes do not have a wastage law, so it is actually legal for them to shoot and take the horns and no meat. It is up the to the actual tribe to decide if they want a wastage regulation.

Hopefully you already contacted WDFW about the incident. Because quite honeslty 18 days after the fact is really no help to an officer. With suspected poachings officers need to hear the info immediately.

The only golf course I can think of is closer to Glenoma.Didnt realize Packwood had a golf course. But then again, theres a lot of stuff about packwood I didnt realize.

Saw a rack from a Dandy bull a week ago Tues in the back of a red ford parked at the store by Kiona rd.

Told a guy I talk to on occasion.Said he heard of one taken in that area by a guy.Heard it grossed 388.Dont know if that parts true or could even be related to the mentioned incident.

Yes it was just past the golf course in high valley community off cannon.  No I have not contacted WDFW.  Hearing a shot on Labor day at night is not unusual alot of wackos on that weekend.  I hunt the high country and did not hear about the dead Bull until I talked with some friends last weekend after my hunt.  I have some locals who live near the location asking around.  I now this post was just a shot in the dark but it is a busy road and I was hoping maybe someone saw a vehicle with some people with lanterns in the field that night.
