Have you Chrono'd your Muzzy
« on: October 01, 2010, 06:47:01 PM »
I chrono'd mine last weekend.

I was pushing a 290 Grn Barnes SpitFireTMZ at 1800 FPS with 110 grains of 777

My question is, how many fps if any will I gain if I want to use 150 grains. i've heard it won't even all burn up but if there's a considerable difference in FPS maybe it's worth a try. Anybody know?

I never got one faster than 1900 and at 1850 it didn't shoot well at that speed.  I backed it down from 120 grains 777 fffg to 70 grains and that is where it shoots best.

I need to switch to ffg and try, but this was the best combination I found at the time and I haven't taken the time to play with it

Interesting. Do you know the speed with 70 grains?

Funny a buddy and I were just talking about that today. I took my rifle and muzz to the range today. Shot some handloads from my rifle and put 4 on a plate with the muzz. I was hoping someone there had a chrony but no such luck.  I'm shooting 275's with a 100 g. of 777. I'm curious too how fast they're flying at.

slower, but I didn't write it down.  90 grains was still moving around 1700

Here is some information I posted last year.

I am shooting the Knight Bighorn 26'' barrel stainless.  300 Grain Shockwave Bonded bullet.

The first picture is 100 yards. The lower shot is with 2-50 grain pellets of 777. The chronograph said 1602 fps. The higher hit on the target was with 3-50 grain pellets of 777. The speed was 1916 fps.

This second target was at 200 yards. The range did not have a 150 yard target. I used 3-50 grain pellets of 777 with both shots. The speed was 1921 fps and 1929 fps. I thought that was pretty good for 200 yards.

i am sure you could gain a 100-200fps i have indeed found that the 150a charge does not burn up all the powder. the other thing is i could not get my guns to group with over 130 grains of powder. i am also shooting the 290 tmz's and i am sure i am right around the 1800 fps mark. they are shooting very good right now.
