Ricks bear calls work!
« on: October 01, 2010, 08:43:41 PM »
I was out scouting this evening and went to one of my special spots. I looked down into a valley and spotted a bear. It was pretty far away and just for fun I tried the call the I got from Rick at Rasbo's BBQ. The bear reacted and stood on it's hind legs and looked around. This got me pretty excited to actually get a bear to react to my call.

I went down into the valley quietly to see if I could find this bear. It took a while  to get down to the area where I thought that it would be. Finally after a while I found a place that I could look for it. I watched and saw nothing, so I thought that I would try my call again. It only took about two or three minutes and there a bear showed itself at the edge of the woods. Then another bear showed and then another one also. It turned out to be a sow with two cubs. I did not shoot even though I had a clear shot. It just was a rush to actually have a bear react to this call. I have tried calling in the past and always got no response.

Also on the way out I ran into a bull elk. Great evening hike for me.

These bring my count this season to 14 sightings. Last year I counted 19.
