Wifes muzzle loader elk.
« on: October 06, 2010, 11:10:26 AM »
We finally got to see the fog has been terrible in the mornings but it was clear today. Saw two groups of elk this morning and the second had a little bull in it. She has taken 3 cow elk with the muzzle loader but this was her first bull. It got me out of trouble because a coyote ran out in front of us and I chased it around corners for a good quarter mile at coyote speed and finally ran over it. She did;nt like the chase or me running over it so was glad to get her off my back by spotting some elk. We got to about 40 yards and there were 3 spikes and some cows and this bull. She hit it a little far back but it only ran about 50 yards before it died. It was good it ran because it ended closer to another cat road so was easy to get out. We had seen not much but tracks until today and was hoping Rasbo was going with me but he still is coughing but getting better so we still might get out. At 40 yards the 348 power belt passed all the way through it missed all the ribs but you would;nt have known it was even hit but could see the blood spot on the hide. Will post pictures when we get skinning done.

We sure had fun we hunt together when she does;nt have to babysit the grandkids and today was sure nice you could see for miles and it was fun to be out. We had been watching for these elk to show up since opening day because we saw them on thursday before season but the fog has been bad and it has;nt lifted until the elk are gone so we have been home by 10 everyday. I really like it when she goes because the lunches are always better and the coffee stronger. Here is my wife Kathy with her first bull elk.

A hearty congrats to the wife!  I myself am in the same boat, killed a few cows with muzzy and archery but have never had the pleasure of downing a bull!  Congrats again!
