Really Down
« on: October 08, 2010, 11:10:22 AM »
Needing some pumping up from people that have had huge success in crappy weather with hunting. . . I have been really excited all summer for my opening day in Unit 14. . . we have been tracking a buck that I think is a keeper. And now the weather is going to be crappy and rainy. . .any bring me ups?  :bash: :'(

better to be chasing bucks in the rain than working in the sun

I went on a guided elk hunt last week. The weather was clear, hot, and a full moon. We went 4 days without even SEEING an elk.  >:( On the last day of the hunt, I was able to get a bull, which was the only elk we saw. Just hang in there and you never know what might happen. I was down in the dumps and it was tough to stay motivated but do your best. On a side note, I shot my biggest whitetail north of Spokane a few years ago in a downpour. Don't let the weather get in the way of the hunt. One of my favorite sayings, "The worst day of hunting is always better then the best day at work"  :brew:

 :yeah:

If it isn't raining, cold, and with a steady breeze in one direction, then it's less than optimal in my opinion.  Keeps the insects down, rain keeps the scentstream down a bit, makes it easier to ghost through the woods with wet vegetation, and keeps the hot blooded elk moving.

Wet is way better! Warm and dry makes leaves sound like bags of potato chips hooked to your boots. I will take rain and wind any day for hunting, best chance for success!

The Deer don't care about the weather. EXCEPT that when it does change it solidifies the coming of fall and the rut right around the corner. As it gets colder they'll feed more into the morning and earlier before dusk, that brings more opportunity for us humans to see them during shootin light. The rut may not be starting yet, but the bucks will still be out locating the gurls.

The best way to combat the crappy weather is to have good clothing and good attitude. I've shot animals in the sunshine, and I've probably shot more of them in the rain or snow.

I think crappy huntin weather is clear and sunny. I've shot most of my deer in the rain. The nastier the weather the better, IMO. At least there won't be any moonlight or starlight, so they will have to feed during the day.

i totally agree. sunny, dry, and warm days are the worst for hunting.... not really sure why he would be complaining.  :dunno:

My motivation gets better as my opener gets closer. . . .I like to hunt after rain and when it is cold and cloudy. . .but I really not a big fan of going out in pouring rain. . .but! I am totally going to do it and hope that I turn up with my big buck I have been watching all summer!  :IBCOOL:

Snap out of it Princess. Deer season is a week away, and with this rainy weather, the opener might actually be good for blacktails this year.

When i think of my best days of hunting and of seeing the most animals i cant hardly think of any that it wasnt raining at least a little  off and on... like said just dress well because being soaked to the bone in the first little bit makes it easy to feel sorry for your self and call it a day early  :twocents:

i agree i hunt the late muzzle seasons and the weather is always crapy :chuckle:deer still have to eat, and they are still going to be there. might be a little harder to find, but like said a bad day hunting beats any good day at work. :IBCOOL:
