New to Bear Hunting Info???

I am new to bear hunting and I really want to be prepared in case I harvest one.  Can anyone give me some tips on what needs done after the shot?  Are there any glands that need to be removed like in deer etc.  Any info would be appreciated.

There are no glands that need to be removed.

If you are going to harvest one for eating then just get it down. Take the cape off and get the meat cooled. Dont forget that you need to take out a pre molar to send in to fish and game.


If you are harvesting one that you want to be done with a taxidermist then your best thing is to go talk to a couple of them see what they are charging and the qualiy of their work. Then ask all the questions on how they want it cut.

The biggest thing is to get it gutted and the cape off to let that meat cool down. Good luck with your bear hunting.

So if I get one and want a rug made do taxidermists usualy allow payments?  How much is typical for a rug???  I know I might be getting ahead of myself but I want to be well informed and prepared!

Almost all taxidermists will allow you to make payments.

I do not charge anything up front.

I take payments through out the process or get paid at the end.

I am 140.00 per foot, double felted all sewn.

Do not know where you are located, but like said if you have a local taxidermist go in there and check out his/her work and make sure you are happy with it. And how they would like them cut.

Honestly no, if the cost is to much for you at teh present time. Then just have someone soft tan it for you, and you can hang it on the wall until a later date and then get it made into a rug.
