Hey fellas, went to look at that 284 win, haven't bought it yet but did come back with some info, The guy says it is a 284 win , that is stamped on the barrel but, he also says it's a model K98, honestly left with more questions than answers.  Maybe a custom made ?  Or maybe I'm custom with a "K".  :chuckle: I'm thin kn maybe a  :bdid:

Sounds like it may be a pretty nice rifle.  If you don't mind saying, how much is the guy asking for it?
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

My father has one. It's a good round for deer and bear. I don't think it is quite enough for elk but he has killed a number of elk with it. If it's in any kind of shape sounds like a good deal.

Not sure why it's not enough for elk??  Great Elk round in my opinion.

The .284 win is a little better than 7mm-08 due to better case design.  But you can only utilize this better case design with a magazine that holds handloaded rounds with the bullet seated longer than factory rounds.  Older magazines were too short to hold rounds that could reach their full potential.

I would love a model 88 in .284 but would have to do something about the magazine otherwise a 7mm-08 would be a wiser choice

So by full potential are you talking amount of powder/fps from the round?  I've got 2 model 88's and 1 model 100 in .284 and haven't had any magazine issues with any of my hand loads or factory ammo.

Hey Curly, the cat was asking 200, for it. I ended up getting it, something to play with :) And it's a bolt action.  I'll post some picks as soon as i get back from early buck.  Didn't have to work after all. headed up to the cabin.  :IBCOOL:

FYI collectors, there is a nice Win 100 in .284 at the Cabelas in Lacey.  ($750.00 I believe)  I saw it there today in the library.
Nothing witty here.... move along.

About $150 higher than it's worth which is about the standard mark up there from what I've seen.  :twocents:
