Cant beleive I did this
« on: October 11, 2010, 01:46:10 PM »
Got up this morning, and started deep cleaning my guns.  Did the shotguns, and my bolt actions no problem.  Down to my last gun which is my Mossberg model 464 30-30. (first lever action)  Well after taking her apart and doing the clean, I noticed I have no idea how to put her back.  Okay I think no problem I will go to youtube, not anything there but people shooting the guns :bash:  Now I have a dissabmled gun, but wait the mossberg website has to have info on it,  :bdid: I check there and the manual states that you should not take the gun apart, and only have a qualified blacksmith do that >:(  Now my favorite bear rifle is sidelined.   :yike: :yike: :yike:

 :chuckle:

I am sure we all have done this at some point.  I can't think of a manual anymore that is anything but a compilation of CYA's from the manufacturer.  I bought a holster from Uncle Mike's and it expressly said that their holsters are not to be used with a loaded firearm.   :dunno:  Maybe there is a Mossberg forum on-line with someone who can help?

You might want a gunsmith :chuckle:
I don't think you need all those extra parts anyhow.  :tung:

You've got the lever and those three pieces in the first pic left correct?

YOUTUBE.COM

I've had the same problem before and when my brother suggested it, I scoffed... (also a mossberg)

3 beers later, I gave it a try and there were at least 10 other 'How To' re-assy guides, all very detailed (some more than they needed to be), but almost all very helpful.

I'd give it a try, couldnt hurt

LOL.  Just be thankful you did it with a lever action and not a semi-auto.  If you have a similar rifle take that apart too and you'll learn how it goes back together.  This is all part of the learning curve.  Have fun.

Couldn't find a manual on the 454, but here is a link to the 464.  Should be close I am guessing.

The firing pin is 1/2 an ich off from the hammer when I pull the trigger, and when i run the lever action it stops short, of going all the way forward
