Wifes first elk (idaho)
« on: October 11, 2010, 09:23:28 PM »
I know its a WA. forum but hey I grew up in Snohomish so is that close enough?

Here's my wifes first elk. 40 yards 1 hr into opening morning. .270 dropped him in his tracks. This is her second year hunting elk with a rifle. In fact second year ever hunting, though she's called for me during archery season for the last 4 years (darn good too). He's not the big bull I have a trail cam pic of (trail cam section) but you can be assured we were only about 50 yards from that spot when daylight broke that morning. Heard him coming down the hill and he had several cows with him. Was sure hoping for that monster to step out but when we saw him there was no waiting around.

She never hunted or fished growing up. To watch her shoot her first animal when 7 years ago she had no idea what hunting was all about when we started dating is indescribable. I don't know who was more excited after the shot. I'm not sure what will top this moment other then maybe one of our boys first big game animal.

p.s. gun is unloaded for you safety nuts... :yike:
I'd rather have a bow in my hand then this keyboard!
