My son and I are headed there for opening weekend of the rifle season.  First look at this area...any advise?  We are planning to mtn bike in and try to find a spot for the late season...

Where are you mt biking into? Above Carson in the Gifford Pinshaw is pretty good hunting... past the fish hatchery up to old mans pass...

We were going to head around the north side of the unit...around Swift Reservoir.  Looks like I could launch my skiff up there and do it that way?

The wife and I grouse hunted up there the other day.
Saw 16 deer, in different areas of the unit. No grouse.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

I am planning on being up north of carson when the sun comes up. may do some fishing friday at goose lake. then head to my spot, with any luck it will be a short season.

dont need a mnt bike there are no closed rds ive hunted it for over twenty years not really a good unit for deer

i would try on 54 drive back till ya hit gravel there is a bunch of 5-10year  second growth back there.
There's more than one way to skin a cat, but that cat won't like any of them...

Its the pass on the main paved road in between the reservoir and Carson... There is a snow park and some Vault toilets there if i remember correctly.
