Wow, that would be really sad. Not sure if its harder to lose a newer dog, or an old dog. Both are horrible.

Did the dog have the parvo vaccine? And osmeone mentioned their dog getting parvo  between the second to last and last set of shots.... My dog only had 2 rounds of shots for parvo... Hope he is safe!

definitely wouldn't want anyone to witness their dog go through something like that.  So much suffering. Thank you all for your kind words.

is this common for pups ? can it be prevented or is it just a thing that happens? I am not familier with this
sorry for your loss, good looking pup!
Puppies need to have ALL their shots before you take them outside and around other dogs.
They can get Parvo from the grass and where ever other dogs have been.
It's real easy for them to get.

I'm sorry about your pup.If you get another one, just make sure you keep it safe till it gets all it's shots.

Sorry to hear-

all pups should be kept away from places frequented by many dogs or coyotes until they've had all their parvo vaccinations. Places like dog parks, parks in general, running paths public areas. I know of one lady who lost an entire litter and it was assumed Parvo was introduced to her home from the UPS drivers boots, it was the only stranger who visited the house at the time the pups got sickened.

tough deal- sorry to hear.

i got a question,  my pup was up to date with all its vaccinations,  is there still a chance of getting parvo?  or were the vaccines not good?  what could be the reason for this?

Couple things people point at when a pup gets parvo. Age is first. Quality of vaccine is second.

Parvo vaccine is a couple of shots. Pups don't have full immunity until they've had their series.

Second is where you got the vaccine from. Many folks/breeders do Parvo vacs themselves. Buy it from the feed store. This is probably ok most of the time but, if the store is not dillegent on rotating the vaccine stock and ensuring it is in a properly temperature controlled environment it goes bad and won't work. I'd bet most vets probably take better care of vaccines than a feed store or, at minimum, they are a little more careful about monitoring and controlling their vaccine stock than the feed and farm store.

This is a couple ways it can happen.

Put down two labs this summer at 14 and `15.  Picking up a new pup in the am.  Don't know why I waited this long.  So sorry for Your family's loss.  It is never easy!!  Why can't dogs just live to 70???

Yeah, how close to puppy mill was the place? Vets would always go thru more product than a feed store,no?
They do shots once a year that only need done every 2

A breeder on canyon road in Tacoma that breeds goldens, had 2 dogs in just 1 park that had no shoulders develop.Sometimes the place doesn't look like a mill, but the folks don't know better.
Maybe not that clean?

Make sure your pup has the correct shots.
Don't do duplicates either, this could kill it too.

Oh and 6point,If my dog lives to 70,we're gunna have a severe falling out. :bash:
