Tri-Cities Deer Hunters
« on: October 22, 2010, 11:42:08 AM »
So my schedule got a little more cramped and forced me to start hitting some local spots for a couple hours in the mornings before returning to town. Been concentrating over by the snake river and have not seen a whole lot of action. I did manage to do a day hike into the Juniper Wilderness and found quite a bit of fresh deer sign, but only got a visual on 5 of them. 4 does and one nubbin of a buck. Thinking about hitting the Waluke Wildlife Refuge but running out of ideas on areas within an hour of home. Any ideas, insight? Does not have to be a honey hole I am just not sure if I should stick to the river edges or head more inland. Might hit Juniper again on sunday but I am leery of putting a buck down 5 miles in over the sand dunes. That is some hard walking.

you ever hunt out bad prescott? Pretty close to where you are. Get out off the roads and you will see alot of deer. Hunted there on opening weekend and saw a lot of game. Missed a shot at a 3x3. The guys that were camped next to us both got some nice bucks.

Thanks beginner, I know it's shotgun only. I have been keeping my 20 guage and some slugs in the truck just in case. Big Flats is also a shotgun only area and I dropped in there the other day. I didn't think about packing the muzzy though it would get me an extra 50 yrds of shot opportunity over the 20 guage.

Cowboy, I like the prescott area it's just a little to far now that you cannot cross over the dam any more. I have to drive south into town and back up now and it makes it about an hour and a half to get to.

Thanks for all the help guys. Cannot say enough for all the help I have gotten from here.

Rules, rules, rules...Now you guys got me thinking. If I pack the muzzy for Waluke, 20 guage for Big Flats, and the .243 for anything in between...Oh and a sidearm for the tweekers...I should be able to find something to shoot at. :chuckle:

Thanks again for the info guys. Have a great weekend.
