Personally, if you apply for a hunt, you should buy the tag and use it to the best of your availability. If you dont use it, that sucks for the rest of us.

I have never seen moose in Wa (and only a few of the others), but you can be sure I will be buying an application for one. I have a general idea of where to look.

I didnt know (or I should say, I read it too late) that you had to buy 164 dollar permit to hunt the multiseason...which I drew....and purchased by the way...Bah! I think it is kind of a rip off that you need to perchase it and you dont even get an extra deer, but that is my own personal opinion. I am thankful I drew (multiseason deer) but will only be hunting Archery and Modern Firearm...I dont own a smokepole.

I would love to get a whitey doe tag though! I see them all over when I go for Muleys.

Peace~

Are you trying to make a point?

Well the point I was trying to make is that it seems sort of selfish to ask other hunters not to put in for the hunts you apply for at least that is how I read it and I am a yayhoo if I apply for something that you want.

I have put in for special hunts before that I had no idea about and actually got drawn, some of them I apply for every year now and others I don't for one reason or another.

I still put in for special permits that I have never hunted because I want to hunt different areas of this state and see different landscape and different species and conditions then what I am used to and don't have the resources to go everywhere and scout all year so I hope the draw will determine where I will hunt next so I can concentrate all my efforts on that one hunt.

Well I don't think you were quoting me,but I can address the sentiment of the original post.  I think the point is, if you are not physically capable of doing a hunt, won't have the cash to buy the tag, or have no intentions of using the tag to its fullest, then it is selfish to apply for it and take the chance from someone else.

I agree with you Bone, if you are just putting in for the tag just to make it harder for others to draw and have no intentions of hunting it then don't put in for it.

Why not hunt the ML unit/season with your bow?

I didn't think that was legal is it? I can't find anything in the regulations that says it is okay to use a bow during a muzzleloader season.

If you have the multi season permit you can hunt all three (modern, archery, ml) with a bow. You can always use a "lesser" weapon then your tag states. You can use a bow, ML or shotgun during a rifle season if you want.

I understand and agree with what you were saying. This is what Polarbear said:

Quote
I'm tired of folks putting in for tags just to put in for them.  I know dudes who put in for sheep, moose and goat who have never seen one or have no idea where or how to hunt for them if they were drawn.

The way he put that does sound selfish to me. I put in for moose and sheep every year and I'm definitely no expert on either one. How could I be when it's a once-in-a-liftime opportunity in this state, and so far in my life I haven't had the money or at least didn't want to spend the money on a guided hunt in some other state or country. Polarbear probably didn't mean it that way but he makes it sound like he feels nobody who isn't already an experienced moose, sheep, or mountain goat hunter has the right to apply for those hunts. It's easy enough to do the research and do the scouting after you draw a permit and I don't have a problem with anybody applying for those permits. Of course I would rather keep the number of applications as low as possible so that my odds will be better, but I don't feel I have any more of a right to draw a permit than anybody else.

I do agree that people should not apply if they aren't sure they will be able to at least spend a reasonable amount of time that it might take to expect to be successful.

Why does it not say that in the 2007 hunting regulations? It does make sense that you would be allowed to use a "lesser" weapon, but I just don't see where the law allows it. It does say under modern firearm seasons that you "may use modern firearm, archery, or muzzleloader," but if you look under archery seasons it says "archery only" and under muzzleloader seasons it says "muzzleloader only."

I honestly didn't think you could hunt with your bow during the muzzelloader hunt.  I know you can in Modern, but not in anotehr primitive weapon season.  I don't think you can flip flop those.   :dunno:

I think what PB is frustrated at as well as myself are so many guys putting in who really don't care to hunt any of those species while those who are serious and would love the chance to have much worse drawing odds because of it.  Thats why I'm in favor of fronting the cash upfront.
