Seen him again
« on: November 05, 2010, 10:27:54 PM »
Two years later (after this pic was taken).  This time before light enough to film.  If he'd held still, I would have got him.  Literally less than 50 yards from where I took this pic two years ago.  He has a bit more spread, a bit more mass, and a third point (barely) this year.
Maybe in the next week or two I'll track him down.

He was wet and it was almost dark when I took the pic.  He is dark though and so are his bones.  and  they were again this year.

I had a taxidrmist tell me alot of that ear damage is from staying up high too long they get like frost bite and chuncks of the ear just fall off. Not sure if it B.S. or not??? I have a nice buck i shot 3 years ago that only had a couple inch's left of either ear. I thought a coyote may have got him when he was young. here is a pic [smg id=1074]

He is probably right about your deer.  They usually freeze off.  The splits are generally from fighting.  This guy is a dominant two point.  He and another one just amaze me.  Kinda what Rem said. Little scrappers.  They fend off bucks 4 times their size.   I have another that I filmed last year and damned if I didn't film him again.  He also grew a third.   If someone looked at him and judged him on antlers alone they'd think he was 2.5 or so.  He had 6 does with him this fall, and there were 3 other bucks within 100 yards.  One was a dominant 4 on a doe and two others that wanted his doe.  Meanwhile this guy had his.  It was cool to watch.  Finally the 4 point came over and this scrapper CHARGED full bore and ran him out of the country.
