TICA Reels
« on: October 22, 2010, 02:38:13 PM »
Anyone use them, likes and general overall impressions (only if you used them)..  They seem well constructed, all machined aluminum frames, not cast or graphite crap that will eventually break...  I am interested in upgrading some of my Sturgeon gear to these reels and getting a fast off shore model for Tuna... (Eventually I will begin to target those fish and want to be prepared) Thanks Mike

All I can say is that I bought once Tica rod . The very first time the whole handle got loose and twisted around including the finger hook. I was very disappointed and returned it to the store for refund. In my opinion I would rather buy other brand ,but hope that there is some other guys here who can tell you if they're happy with Tica or not. Good luck
Everyone thinks that I'm freak ,I don't look different do I ?

Got some other information, probably will stay clear of TICA and go with AVET for similar reels with similar cost and great reviews....

I'd stay clear of TICA.  I don't own any but a buddy had some that were crap.  They just market them well, not build them well.

tica cenan (sp) i bought one new for lingcod season. it was a 200 size, which is about a 400 size shimano. well the first fish i hooked was about 38" and it blew the drag out on the first run. i fixed the drag that night with carbon washers. the next day and the second fish hooked on the reel was about 42" and it destroyed the anti-reverse bearing.

so 2 fish, two major break downs on the reel. so now i have titainum washers (didnt like the carbon washers), new abec 7 bearings, and new anti-reverse bearing. the reel is going strong now for 3 years. caught multiple 40" lings and tons and tons of keeper sturgeon on the reel.

I've been using the Caiman CT200 for about four years now with zero problems. Is great for casing heavy jigs long distances (going for kings off piers), not so great for lightweight stuff. Now sits on my boat rod for salmon and whatever else we go for. I like it.
