I punch holes in paper with mine.  I haven’t killed anything with it in years.

I have a win mod 70 in 06 that goes along as the extra rifle all the time, its taken a far share of animals over the years.
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Its all I use Quad... Bought my first one when I was 14.... Got my 2nd at 28 or so... THere isn't a shot or a game animal around that I cant make with it just as well as any other caliber available...

(OK, OK... I do think it would be nice to have a 300 Ultra with Barnes 200 Grain TSX so I can shoot from ass to heart on an elk if needed....)

Anyhow...I LOVE 06's and dont see myself going away from them anytime soon.

Yep best gun ever. They should have never invented magnums cause the 30-06 will outshoot everything on the market.

By the way, before the o6' I just used a 30-30 model 94 for my first 6 or 8 bears and a few deer.... (actually all my bears except one have been with the 30-30)...

So... more info. I now shoot a Browning A-Bolt, I shoot 168 grain Barnes TSX's in front of 59.5 grains of H4831 SC...

I love the 06 because you can shoot everything from CMP ball ammo at 35C a round up to some swank hi end factory or bad ass reloads... I kelled a nice elk with the trophy bonded bearclaw and many yotes with the ball ammo... Also a couple with the Trophy bonded, but there wan't much left...  :twocents:  I'm a lefty so in a bolt action your choices were limited... My cousin has a browning lever action in 06 that he likes pretty well...  :twocents: He's killed a few yotes with it as well.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I have and use on occasion for tromping in the thick stuff an old Remington Woodstalker ( i think its called) semi-auto. It's well used so I don't feel bad when in the thick stuff and it is shorter than my .270WSM and not as heavy as the .338 mag :IBCOOL: And it shoots awesome

I had a 721 30-06, my fist deer gun, bought it on payments with trapping money when I was kid.
Wish I hadn't sold it.
